Our Adoption Process
If you view an animal on our website that you would be interested in adopting please read the details below so that you are familiar with our adoption process.
Once you're familiar with the process you may complete the adoption application which can be found at the bottom of this page.
It is never a case of "first in best dressed" when we are choosing the most appropriate new home. We recommend that you fill in as much information as possible on your application.
In order for your application to be considered you must, as a minimum:
- Be aged 21 years or over.
- Own your home (more information available on FAQ).
- Have Council approval for the number of animals you intend to keep.
- Be willing to provide a vet reference.
As part or our adoption process involves a visit to you and your family at home, preference will be given to applicants living on the Sunshine Coast, QLD.
We use years of experience in matching an animal with a family based on lifestyle, family members, attitudes to pet ownership and the personality of the pet.
Due to the number of applications we receive and our limited resources, we only contact shortlisted applicants.
Should your application be shortlisted, we aim to contact you within 7-10 days however, please note that this is not always possible and it can sometimes take longer.
If you are shortlisted we get in touch with you for a more detailed conversation and to arrange to make a home visit. During the visit we will inspect your yard to ensure your fencing and home is appropriate for the animal you are interested in. We will also request a verbal reference from your vet.
Adopting an animal from 4 Paws is not easy because we want to ensure that the animal will remain with its new family until the natural end of its days. The future well being of an animal is our absolute priority.
Adoption is a privilege. We work hard to find the most appropriate home possible for each of our animals, no matter how long it takes.
4 Paws does not organise interstate adoptions for any animal and priority will be given to applicants who live on the Sunshine Coast, QLD
